I've been waiting for the right product to use for another "boozy" post. Yesterday's happy mail brought the perfect thing!
SimplyGala Syrups gifted me some awesome syrup samples. One that caught my eye was the Old Fashioned syrup so, it was definitely one of my choices. I've tried a lot of "adult beverages" in my life and oddly, I've never had an old fashioned. I can recall my grand parents talking about them when I was younger and I knew a little about the recipe, but the angosutra bitters always scared me away (I generally don't care for it). And, since it's mostly a glass of bourbon on ice with some flavor added, I felt like it would be too strong.
Enter: the game changer. I hijacked my husband's bottle of Wild Turkey 101 and grabbed a fancy glass from the bar. Some ice, shot of bourbon, and this magical syrup and I am in love. I was so pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed the flavor of this drink! Cherries, oranges, sweetness with a pinch of bitter...oh so perfect!
Everything you need for a perfect old fashioned is in this little bottle. Add your favorite rye or bourbon and, VOILA, you are a master mixologist! There's a little tag included with a recipe to help you make a perfect drink. I did use slightly less bourbon and it was perfect for my taste.
Of course, I will definitely try this as a sweetener in my tea (stay tuned for that update), but this little gem will be living on the bar shelf.
