It's been a while since I've had the chance to sip an oolong tea so, I was excited when I reached into my basket and pulled this gem out. With my tolerance decreasing, I don't get the chance to enjoy caffeinated teas when I get home from work; I save them for the weekend to keep my energy up while I'm buzzing around doing chores and errands!
This blend by The Trusted Tea Co includes mallow petals. There's not a lot and I don't pick up much of a flavor (I had to google the actual flavor to be sure I wasn't missing something and it turns out, they don't offer much flavor), but they sure are pretty mixed in with the curled and twisted tea leaves!
This fresh tea has everything you want in a good oolong: a little bit of fruity-floral notes in a full-bodied tea with a hint of a sweet, bready flavor...pastry-ish, if that makes sense. Different processes of oxidation will determine if your oolong tastes more like a black tea or closer to a green tea. This brew is light in color and seems closer to a black tea in flavor.
You'll want to use an infuser with plenty of space for this tea to "swim" around in; these are full leaves and they expand a lot. It's exciting (for me, anyway) to see how much they unfurl and grow while they steep. Try steeping in a clear mug to watch the magic!
I usually do a hot brew for oolong, but have you ever had it as an iced tea? A local bubble tea shop where I live serves iced oolong as their house iced tea and it is AMAZING. My husband even asked the owner about it because he like it so much which, is crazy since he's just sticks to plain 'ole southern sweet tea.
So, while I'm using the rest of my super sized sample to make a pitcher of delicious iced oolong tea, y'all head over to their site to get this tea and plenty of other fresh brews and blends. https://thetrustedteaco.com/shop/ols/products/blue-spring-oolong
