I love chai so much. And, I really love coconut. I normally only drink chai when it's cold out, but with all of the teas I've been trying to get through for reviews, chai is popping up quite frequently.
This chai is a caffeine free rooibos blend. Rooibos by itself is not something that I am a fan of and, as a rule, I don't really buy rooibos blends. But, as soon as I saw the ingredient list for this coconut chai, I had a feeling that this might be on my favorites list for this fall. Cinnamon, clove, and ginger...all the components of a common chai. But, add coconut flakes and crushed chili and you have a spicy cup of perfection.
When I opened the tin of loose leaf, my first thought was that it smelled like eggnog with nutmeg which, is one of my favorite drinks in the winter. Once steeped, this reddish liqueur was giving me plenty of spicy aroma. A little agave and almond milk and I had myself a wonderful, perfect chai.
Since I've started backing off of caffeine after lunch (otherwise, I'm up all night), I'm super excited to have this in a caffeine free option. I can have a creamy, spicy chai any time of day...even in the evening.
If you don't like spicy heat, don't be afraid of this tea; the crushed chili simply rounds out the whole cup with no lingering burn.
