Tea companies have the cutest names, don’t they? Snapdragon & Thistle shared a couple of their amazing blends with me and, I got to pick them out myself! Score!
I was years into green tea before I learned about Genmaicha. It is now my number one favorite green tea. There’s not a whole lot to say about it since it’s only two ingredients, right? WRONG! When choosing my genmaicha tea, it’s all about the quality of the green tea. There’s not skimping on quality and freshness in this blend!
Genmaicha is a combination of green tea and popped rice. This particular blend uses Japanese sencha green tea. It’s a little different than the buttery green tea that most people are accustomed to; it has a very “green” flavor. A little bit of a grassy note mixed with a hint of a seaweed essence; it’s very clean and refreshing. It’s also rumored that sencha assists in burning calories…I NEED ALL THE HELP I CAN GET.
Popped rice? Yep! I’ve heard it called “popcorn tea” because some of the rice actually blooms like popcorn during the popping process. The flavor that you get is a tiny bit earthy with a nice starchy flavor…kind of like popcorn. The benefit of this tea for me is the carb cravings that it kills. Maybe it’s just in my head but, I do taste that starchiness and it helps curb my urge to reach for potato chips!
Aside from this being a delicious tea, you still get all of the wonderful benefits that green tea offers: antioxidants and polyphenols to clean out the free radicals that are renting space in you body.
As always, I encourage you to support small business. Read the “about” section to hear the story of this sweet little company. Browse and shop!
