Confession: I have never actually tried fresh lychee. However, I have had a few lychee tea blends. This lychee oolong tea by Harbor Leaf is like none I’ve ever tried. Since I can’t compare the flavor of lychee tea to the actual fruit, I’ll do my best to describe my tea experience!
Opening the pack, the freshness of the tea is apparent in the aroma. Oolong tea has an aroma and flavor that is kind of in between black and green tea. There is a slight creaminess and it is very smooth. When brewed properly, the flavor is very clean and has a low stringency. The lychee has a very nice fruity flavor with just the slightest floral note. The best way I can describe the flavor (at least what my taste buds are telling me) is a cross between a melon blend and a berry blend; maybe honeydew and raspberry, but it’s a mild fruit flavor. The floral is a bit of a rose flavor. It’s a delicious and clean blend and now, I am officially on a mission to find some fresh lychee so that I can learn a little more about the flavor!
I love a good oolong tea and I can definitely see the quality in this blend. If you’re not familiar with oolong, it has a ton of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants and can give you a nice energy boost. It’s a great choice for and after-lunch tea to get you over that mid-afternoon slump.
