Lost Maples by Catspring Yaupon

Yaupon.  Yep, you read it right...yaupon.  I don't know about other states, but yaupon grows like wildfire here in the great state of TEXAS.  I've been here all my life and I never knew you could use yaupon for tea.  How did I not know this?!?!  I had a little grove of yaupon in

my back yard years ago...and I hacked it down. I wish I'd known!

I was so excited to get this gift of yaupon teas from my fellow Texans over at Catspring Yaupon.  Before I get into this review, I have to recommend that you to go to their website and read their "about" section.  They have an amazing story and their employment initiative is remarkable.

I always like to give informative reviews which usually end up being pretty lengthy.  I'll keep this one short since I just have a pretty basic explanation of this tea: WOW.  The Lost Maples is the company's medium roast and I have to say, I'm completely amazed at how

similar it is to regular black tea. There's a mild bitterness and stringency that's slightly different than black tea, but it's a comparable flavor.

Here's an interesting fact about yaupon: it contains theobromine.  This is the ingredient in dark chocolate that make you go "ooooooh....ahhhh....mmmmmm"; it's a pleasure molecule.  There are also studies that say theobromine can lower blood pressure and prevent tooth

decay.  Yaupon is also caffeinated so, it's perfect for a midday pick-me-up.

I brewed it hot and added just a little sweetener and it was just as amazing as a good ole cup of plain black hot tea.  I really want to try this with cream and sugar, English style.  But, what I really can't wait to do is to try this one iced or try a cold brew.  It's bound to make a

perfect glass of sweet tea. Y'all keep an eye out for a little blurb about that.  We know what good, sweet tea is here in Texas and I'm willing to bet that Texans and fellow southerners are gonna love this tea!

I've got two of their other signature teas to try so, watch out for those reviews.  While you're waiting for that, check them out.  Trust me, you will be amazed at the flavor of this tea.
