I’ve had so much fun with hibiscus this week! I’m super grateful for the jumbo sample of Organic Hibiscus from Healthygeek Organics. Do you know how much 8 ounces of hibiscus flowers is? It’s A LOT! I’m so impressed with the huge, whole flowers…they’re beautiful and probably the most fresh, dried hibiscus I’ve ever had.
Who doesn’t love a refreshing glass of iced hibiscus tea? It’s so versatile, right? I’ve gone through nearly a gallon pitcher of it this week! A slice of lemon or lime, a squeeze of fresh blood orange, or in my water bottle with some sliced cucumbers; there’s no limit to the possibilities when it comes to hibiscus. Hibiscus is tart and delicious on its own, but you can add it to nearly any tea: black, green, white, herbal or fruit teas…you just can’t go wrong. It adds such beautiful flavor and color to anything you blend it with. And hibiscus is amazing for staying hydrated as well as ridding your body of fluid retention.
Now…on to the fun stuff!
I’ve mentioned before that I’m a sucker for bubbles…I’m terribly addicted to carbonation. Diet soda, tonic water…beer…yes, I love beer. WELL, LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT HIBISCUS SODA! I have one of those nifty contraptions that allows you to carbonate plain ole tap or bottled water to create your own sparkling water or soda. OF COURSE, I made a hibiscus soda! I made a highly concentrated cold brew and let it steep overnight. Once I carbonated my fancy water bottle, I added some hibiscus concentrate and, voila! NATURAL SODA! It’s so extra delicious and absolutely does the trick for my bubble cravings. It’s tart and sparkly and AMAZING!
But wait…it gets better.
Anybody love a good mojito? ME ME ME! I use a low-calorie pre-mix for my mojitos so, I thought I’d try out a new concoction: The Hibiscus Mojito! A shot of rum, mojito mix, and a shot of hibiscus concentrate….oh my…it’s magic. What made this so perfect is that the hibiscus really helped balance out the sweetness (those low-cal mixes use artificial sweetener, and they are SUPER sweet). The hibiscus cut the sweetness just enough and gave it just the right burst of tartness to make it a perfect pink cocktail.
