Blooming teas are so fun! When I first discovered blooming tea, I wasn't very educated on teas and I definitely didn't have the palate for the vast variety that I have now. Many moons ago, I bought them because they were pretty and fun to watch. Well, they're still fun to play with, but I now have a different appreciation for teas and most certainly, more knowledge.
This fancy little bundle was part of my haul from California Tea House. It's miraculous how they can pack such a surprise into a tiny little present. You'll have to go to the Instagram page to check out the time-lapse video of the bloom. It's my first attempt at a time-lapse so, you might want to take something for motion sickness before viewing. @just.tea_zen
If you a regular reader of my blog, you know that I don't do floral. This made me a little hesitant when choosing my tea...there's a lot of floral in there. Jasmine is one that I usually
mess up by using too much tea or, I forget about my steep and leave it for far too long...ruining my cup. Luckily, these precious little bundles have just the right amount of tea and I guess you could say it has a built in timer. Pour your boiling water over the bundle and it will naturally settle to the bottom, bloom, and then your tea is magically ready and perfectly steeped!
Now, the information you really want: how does it taste? I must say, I'm surprised and very pleased. This bloom is a nice and mild silver needle white, wrapped around jasmine, peony, and globe amaranth. This tea was so perfectly balanced and the floral notes were not overpowering in the least. I got the beautiful aroma of the jasmine with a mild floral flavor that was completely smoothed out by the white tea. I've never had amaranth or peony by themselves so, I can't depict the exact flavor of each one however, the combination of all of these components made for a very enjoyable afternoon cup of tea. AND...it's was fun to watch!
Floral teas may not be your thing, but this just might change your mind. There are several different types to choose from; each with their own unique final product. Try one, try them all! I'll be checking out a few others in the near future and reporting on those as well. Find them here: https://www.californiateahouse.com/
